Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning removes the outer most layers of dead skin cells and vellous (peach fuzz) facial hair leaving the skin instantly smooth, supple and vibrant. Dermaplaning is fastly becoming the most popular form of “manual exfoliation” for skin rejuvenation.
How this treatment is performed and is it safe?
It is safely performed by using a sterile surgical blade. The skin is held taut as the blade is held against the skin at a 45 degree angle and stroked along the skin, just like shaving.
Will the hairs on the face grow back thicker or darker?
No. It is physiologically impossible for your vellous hairs to grow back thicker. Once the hair is cut, it has a blunt edge, but this blunt edge does not mean that the hair structure itself has been physiologically altered.
There are two types of hair that grow on our bodies. Vellous (tiny translucent blonde hair) and Terminal (thicker hair that grows under the arms, pubic area, eye brows, mustache and beard for men and legs)
Sometimes, waxing can make the hair appear to be "thinner" but it is really not thinner at all. Because waxing pulls the hair from it's roots, the new hair grows in with a smooth tip, making it feel softer. But it is actually the same type of hair it was before. It's only when we cut hair (any type of hair) that the hair grows back with a blunt cut at the tip.
What areas of the skin can be treated?
Dermaplaning is performed on the face only. We do not blade the nose, eye lids, neck or chest.
How often is this procedure performed?
Every 3 - 4 weeks. Dermaplaning the skin actually removes about 2-3 weeks worth of dead skin cells. We want the skin to complete it's normal skin cycle of approximately 30 days.
Can dermaplaning be performed with a chemical peel?
Absolutely. Sometimes the skin does peel after dermaplaning. If the procedure is done at a 2 week interval, then the skin cycle has not been completed.
Also, if using a chemical peel after, you may experience some superficial peeling. But the idea is not to over-exfoliate the skin. We just want to assist in the skin's natural exfoliation process.
What skin types/conditions can be treated?
All skin types can benefit from dermaplaning, however, I would not recommend this treatment for those suffering from acne. The oils from the sebaceous gland need to travel up and connect with the vellous hair. (Vellous hair does not have oil/sebaceous glands) If the hair is removed, then the oils tend to stay below where they are prone to mix with bacterial colonies, ultimately stimulating more acne.
SkinMedica Vitalize Peel
Patients may achieve dramatic improvement in epidermal texture, tone, lessening of superficial lines and a healthier, more youthful look and feel with minimum down time. This renewal process has been clinically proven to target pigmentation problems (such as age spots) and melasma as well as stimulate collagen production in the cells underneath the skin's surface. There is little to no down time and is known as a "lunch time peel". The skin will start to peel two to three days after application and with the use of recommended products results are powerful with one peel and dramatic with a series of peels.
Skin Types: May be performed on Skin types I- VI

TCA
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) can be used in many concentrations and is used to accomplish the following: smooth fine surface wrinkles, remove superficial blemishes, correct pigment problems. This removes outer layers of unhealthy skin. You may experience some burning and stinging, but this soon dissipates. After the outer skin layer peels, we replace it with new, more youthful skin. TCA peel makes your skin look fresh. It gets rid of any minor blemishes and age spots you may have. However, it has a minimal effect on deep wrinkles.

Did You Know?
What you should know about the sun...
It causes 90% of all skin cancers:
• Overcast days are not much safer than those that are sunny, as 70-80% of the sun's ultraviolet rays can get through the clouds.
• The sun is about 80% stronger when reflected off sand and snow.
• The sun's rays increase in intensity about 4% for every 1,000-foot rise in altitude.
• It's better to play or engage in sports before 10 a.m. And after 4 p.m. If that's not possible, try to avoid being out at high noon.
• The sun weakens the immune system, reducing your defense against infection.
• In general, kids can get all the vitamin D they need for strong bones from fortified milk, salmon, vitamin supplements and/or brief, casual sun exposure
